Ted Teeder Kennedy, the captain of five Stanley Cup championship teams with the Toronto Maple Leafs during a Hall of Fame career, died Friday. He was 83.
He died of congestive heart failure at a nursing home in his hometown of Port Colborne, son Mark Kennedy said.

The Edmonton Oilers signed defenseman Ladislav Smid to a two-year contract on Wednesday, and agreed to one-year, two-way deals with forwards Gilbert Brule and Ryan Stone.
Smid, 23, set career highs in assists and points with 11 last season. He had no goals and 57 penalty minutes in 60 games.

The Nashville Predators have signed restricted free agent forward Ryan Jones.
The team said in a news release Monday that Jones has signed a two-year, $975,000 contract.
He played 46 games with the Predators during his rookie season, scored 17 points with seven goals and 10 assists.
Jones was drafted by Minnesota in the fourth round in 2004.
