Mariners’ novice catcher Jeff Clement left Tuesday night’s game with the Boston Red Sox in the inning after injuring his reasonable hand when a foul ball ripped the extremity nail off his thumb.
With two outs in the top of the second, Boston’s Dustin Pedroia hit a foul ball behind home plate that Clement to the backstop. Clement placed his respectable hand through the defensive screen to bracket and the ball distinct his hand as it fell just behind the screen.
Clement immediately looked at his hand and his discomfort, punching his hand toward the broken up in aversion. Mariners chief Jim Riggleman and instructor Rick Griffin to Clement, specifically at his thumb. Griffin taped the thumb and Clement over off the top of the second, then struck out in the bottom of the before being lifted.
