OTTAWA 3, ST LOUIS 1

ST LOUIS Peter Regin made his first NHL goal a memorable one.

The rookie scored with just under two minutes remaining in the third period to snap a tie as the Ottawa Senators recorded a 3-1 triumph over the St. Louis Blues.

Mike Fisher added both a shorthanded and empty-net goal and rookie Brian Elliott made 22 saves for Ottawa, which improved to 6-14-3 on the road this season.

Brad Winchester scored and Chris Mason turned aside 27 shots for St. Louis, which fell to 3-1-1 in its last five games.

With 1:57 remaining in the third and the contest tied at 1-1, Regin skated around the net and wristed a shot that beat Mason just inside the right goalpost.

Recalled from Binghamton of the American Hockey League on Tuesday, Regin is the fifth player born in Denmark to appear in an NHL game, joining Poul Popiel, Frans Nielsen, Jannik Hansen and Mikkel Boedker.

Fisher added an empty-netter with 33 seconds remaining to seal the win and cap his first multi-goal performance of the season. It was his seventh goal of the campaign and fourth in his last six games.

With his team shorthanded, Fisher opened the scoring midway through the first period. After collecting a loose puck, he wristed a shot past Mason from the slot with 9:54 remaining in the session.

Winchester leveled the contest just under three minutes later, when he tapped defenseman Jeff Woywitkas centering pass past Elliott for his eighth tally of the campaign.

The Senators had a chance to regain the lead while on a two-man advantage in the waning moments of the middle period, but All-Star Dany Heatleys slap shot hit the right goalpost.

TORONTO 7, COLORADO 4

DENVER Jason Blake scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period and added two assists as the Toronto Maple Leafs snapped a four-game losing streak with a 7-4 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.

Dominic Moore netted two goals and set up another while Alexei Ponikarovsky, Niklas Hagman, defenseman Ian White and Nikolai Kulemin collected two assists apiece for the Maple Leafs, who had lost eight of their previous nine contests.

Mikhail Grabovski recorded a tally and an assist, Nik Antropov, Matt Stajan and former Avalanche defenseman Jeff Finger also tallied and Vesa Toskala made 16 saves for Toronto.

All-Star Milan Hejduk scored twice, blue-liner John-Michael Liles netted a goal and set up another and rookie Chris Stewart also tallied for Colorado, which has lost three games in a row and six of its last seven.

FLORIDA 5, MONTREAL 1

SUNRISE, Florida Stephen Weiss recorded a goal and two assists as the Florida Panthers ended a losing streak against the Montreal Canadiens and maintained their red-hot play this month with a 5-1 victory.

Along with securing its second straight win since the All-Star break, Florida snapped a five-game skid against Montreal.

Weiss and All-Star defenseman Jay Bouwmeester scored power-play goals in the first period and Radek Dvorak converted on a penalty shot midway through the third for the Panthers.

Rookie Michael Frolik and Richard Zednik also tallied for Florida, which improved to 7-1-3 in January.

Robert Lang scored the lone goal for Montreal, which has dropped four straight.

CAROLINA 3, TAMPA BAY 2

RALEIGH, North Carolina All-Star Eric Staal snapped a tie with 96 seconds remaining in the third period as the Carolina Hurricanes edged the Tampa Bay Lightning, 3-2.

Matt Cullen recorded a goal and an assist and Chad LaRose netted the first shorthanded goal of the season for the Hurricanes, who have won three of four following a five-game losing streak.

Veteran Mark Recchi scored a goal and set up another while Ryan Malone also tallied for the Lightning, who were denied of winning four in a row for the first time this season.

NEW JERSEY 4, BOSTON 3 (OT)

BOSTON Captain Jamie Langenbrunners second goal of the night 71 seconds into overtime lifted the New Jersey Devils to a 4-3 victory over the Boston Bruins.

After opening the scoring late in the first period, Langenbrunner parked himself in front of All-Star goaltender Tim Thomas and emerged from a scrum in front of the net with the puck. He turned and sent a backhanded shot past Thomas for the game-winner.

All-Star Zach Parise and Patrik Elias also scored for New Jersey, which extended its winning streak to seven games.

After the Bruins stormed back from a 2-0 deficit to take the lead with three unanswered goals in the third period, Elias saved the Devils from a pointless night by scoring his 22nd tally of the season with 1:45 left in regulation.

NY ISLANDERS 5, ATLANTA 4

ATLANTA Rookie Kyle Okposo recorded his first career two-goal game as the New York Islanders avoided a major meltdown in the third period en route to a 5-4 triumph over the Atlanta Thrashers.

Trent Hunter, Tim Jackman and Doug Weight also scored for New York, which halted a 14-game road losing streak (0-13-1).

All-Star defenseman Mark Streit and rookie Josh Bailey each notched two assists and Yann Danis made 33 saves for the Islanders, who entered the third with a four-goal lead only to watch the Thrashers cut it to one.

Rich Peverley registered a goal and two assists while All-Star Ilya Kovalchuk, rookie defenseman Zach Bogosian and Marty Reasoner also scored for Atlanta, which has lost three in a row.

DALLAS 4, DETROIT 2

DETROIT Steve Ott scored a goal and set up another as the Dallas Stars tallied three times on the power play en route to a 4-2 victory over the slumping Detroit Red Wings.

Ott, Jere Lehtinen and Loui Eriksson all scored with the man advantage for the Stars, who handed the Red Wings their season-high fourth straight loss.

Chris Conner netted his first goal of the season, Mike Modano and Brad Richards each recorded two assists and Marty Turco made 21 saves for Dallas, which has won three in a row for the first time this campaign.

Marian Hossa and defenseman Andreas Lilja tallied for the Red Wings, who had won their previous seven home contests.

LOS ANGELES 5, CHICAGO 2

LOS ANGELES Captain Dustin Brown recorded two goals and an assist and rookie Jonathan Quick turned aside 31 shots as the Los Angeles Kings posted a 5-2 triumph over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Alexander Frolov notched a goal and an assist, Patrick OSullivan netted a shorthander and Jarret Stoll also tallied for Los Angeles, which won its third consecutive game.

Defenseman Kyle Quincey set up a pair of goals for the Kings.

Dave Bolland and Patrick Sharp scored, All-Star defenseman Brian Campbell registered two assists and Cristobal Huet made 21 saves for Chicago, which fell to 1-3-0 in its last four.

SAN JOSE 2, PHOENIX 0

SAN JOSE, California Evgeni Nabokov made 24 saves and defenseman Christian Ehrhoff scored a power-play goal in the second period to help the San Jose Sharks blank the Phoenix Coyotes, 2-0.

Marcel Goc added an empty-netter with 15 seconds remaining in the third for the Sharks, who have won four straight and seven of their last eight.

Nabokov turned aside seven shots in the first and third periods and stopped 10 shots in the second to notch his fourth shutout of the season and 44th career. The 33-year-old also set a franchise record of 170 minutes, 10 seconds without surrendering a goal.

Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 27 shots for the Coyotes, who have lost two in a row.
