NEW JERSEY 4, OTTAWA 1
OTTAWA (Ticker)Captain Jamie Langenbrunner scored a pair of goals as the New Jersey Devils continued to roll with a 4-1 triumph over the Ottawa Senators.
Patrik Elias and Brendan Shanahan also tallied and Travis Zajac notched two assists for New Jersey, which has won six in a row and seven of eight.
Scott Clemmensen made 21 saves for the Devils, who also extended their road winning streak to five games.
Alexandre Picard netted the lone goal for Ottawa, which fell to 3-1-1 in its last five.
TAMPA BAY 5, MONTREAL 3
TAMPA, Florida All-Stars Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St Louis each recorded a goal and an assist as the Tampa Bay Lightning scored three times in the second period en route to a 5-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens.
Ryan Malone, Vaclav Prospal and Steve Downie also tallied for the Lightning, who have won three straight games and slowly are climbing the Eastern Conference standings.
Mike Smith made 31 saves for Tampa Bay, which went 4-1-0 over its five-game homestand.
Maxim Lapierre scored twice and All-Star Game MVP Alexei Kovalev also tallied for the Canadiens, who have been rumored to be interested in acquiring Lecavalier for months.
MINNESOTA 6, TORONTO 1
ST. PAUL, Minnesota Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored a pair of goals and set up another to lead the Minnesota Wild to a 6-1 rout of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Cal Clutterbuck opened the scoring as Minnesota led, 1-0, after the first period. Defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron snapped a tie 5 1/2 minutes into the second and began a run of five unanswered goals by the Wild, who have tallied at least four times in each of their last four victories.
Andrew Brunette and Owen Nolan each added a goal and an assist and All-Star Niklas Backstrom made 26 saves for Minnesota.
Jason Blake netted the lone goal for Toronto, which fell to 1-6-2 in its last nine games.
BUFFALO 10, EDMONTON 2
EDMONTON, Alberta Drew Stafford notched his second career hat trick as the Buffalo Sabres recorded their highest scoring output of the season with a 10-2 triumph over the Edmonton Oilers.
Tim Connolly registered two goals and an assist, All-Star Thomas Vanek and Derek Roy both scored and set up a pair of goals and former Edmonton defenseman Jaroslav Spacek also tallied for Buffalo, which improved to 4-1-0 in its last five games.
Former Oiler Jochen Hecht and blue-liner Nathan Paetsch each recorded a goal and an assist while Jason Pominville, Ales Kotalik, Clarke MacArthur and captain Craig Rivet notched two assists apiece for the Sabres.
Ryan Miller made 35 saves to post career victory No. 134, moving him into a tie with Martin Biron for third place on the franchise list.
Robert Nilsson registered a goal and an assist and Erik Cole netted a power-play tally for Edmonton, which saw its three-game winning streak come to an end.
COLUMBUS 3, DETROIT 2 (OT)
COLUMBUS, Ohio All-Star Rick Nash capped his third career hat trick by scoring with 93 seconds remaining in overtime as the Columbus Blue Jackets recorded a 3-2 triumph over the Detroit Red Wings in a battle of Central Division rivals.
The captain also netted both a shorthanded and power-play goal, defenseman Mike Commodore notched two assists and rookie Steve Mason turned aside 21 shots for Columbus, which improved to 5-2-1 in its last eight games.
Marian Hossa scored a power-play goal and defenseman Brett Lebda also tallied for Detroit, which was playing without center Pavel Datsyuk and captain Nicklas Lidstrom. The pair served their one-game suspensions imposed by the league for failing to attend the All-Star festivities this past weekend in Montreal.
Chris Osgood made 20 saves for the Red Wings, who fell to 0-2-1 in their last three contests.
NY RANGERS 3, CAROLINA 2
NEW YORK Scott Gomez scored a goal and set up another and Stephen Valiquette made 33 saves as the New York Rangers skated to a 3-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.
Brandon Dubinsky and rookie Lauri Korpikoski also tallied and Markus Naslund recorded two assists for the Rangers, who have won five of their last six games.
Tuomo Ruutu notched a goal and an assist and captain Rod BrindAmour set up a pair of tallies for the Hurricanes, who failed to win their third straight contest.
Ryan Bayda also scored and Cam Ward stopped 28 shots for Carolina, which went 0-for-4 on the power play en route to its sixth loss in eight games.
BOSTON 3, WASHINGTON 2 (OT)
BOSTON David Krejci scored on the power play at 1:55 of overtime to give the Boston Bruins a 3-2 victory over the Washington Capitals.
After Nicklas Backstrom was called for hooking less than a minute into the extra session, the Bruins set up in four corners in the Capitals zone. Captain Zdeno Chara hit Krejci with a pass on the end line to the left of the net, and the 22-year-old Czech appeared to be attempting a pass across the goal mouth when the puck deflected off Washington defenseman Shaone Morrisonn and past goaltender Jose Theodore for the winning goal.
All-Star Marc Savard scored his 17th goal on the power play with 5:48 left in the second period to knot the game at 2-2 and Shawn Thornton netted an unassisted tally in the first session for Boston.
Defenseman Mike Green and Michael Nylander scored for Washington.
FLORIDA 3, PHILADELPHIA 2
SUNRISE, Florida Michael Frolik recorded a goal and two assists as the Florida Panthers skated to a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.
Defenseman Bryan McCabe and David Booth also tallied and blue-liner Keith Ballard notched a pair of assists for Florida, which avoided a third straight loss and moved into eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Booth tipped in a shot from the blue line by Ballard during a power play with 8:10 left in the second period to stake Florida to a 3-1 lead.
Simon Gagne scored his 20th of the season for Philadelphia, which also saw rookie Claude Giroux score his first NHL goal.
DALLAS 2, ATLANTA 0
DALLAS Marty Turco made 25 saves and Steve Ott collected a goal and an assist to help the Dallas Stars return from the All-Star break with a 2-0 win over the Atlanta Thrashers.
Jere Lehtinen tallied and Mike Ribeiro recorded a pair of assists for the Stars, who have won back-to-back games for the first time this month.
Turco stopped six shots in both the first and second periods and 13 in the third en route to his second shutout of the season and 35th career.
Kari Lehtonen made 31 saves for the Thrashers.
SAN JOSE 3, COLORADO 0
DENVER Evgeni Nabokov made 31 saves to record his third shutout of the season and Milan Michalek netted a pair of goals as the San Jose Sharks skated to a 3-0 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.
Captain Patrick Marleau added an empty-netter for the Sharks, who have posted an 8-2-0 record this month, with both losses coming against the Calgary Flames.
An All-Star Game snub despite posting a 25-5-4 record over the unofficial halfway point of the campaign, Nabokov turned aside nine shots in the opening period, 10 in the second and 12 in the third to complete his 43rd career blanking.
Michalek opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 8:15 of the first session and notched his 13th of the season with 91 seconds left in the middle period.
Andrew Raycroft stopped 35 shots for the Avalanche, who have lost five of their last six contests and were shut out for the fifth time this season.
ANAHEIM 7, PHOENIX 3
GLENDALE, Arizona Chris Kunitz and Corey Perry scored two goals apiece as the Anaheim Ducks tallied four times in the second period en route to a 7-3 triumph over the Phoenix Coyotes.
Bobby Ryan extended his goal-scoring streak to four games and Rob Niedermayer and Travis Moen also scored for Anaheim, which won for just the third time in nine games.
Samuel Pahlsson and All-Stars Ryan Getzlaf and Scott Niedermayer each notched two assists and Jonas Hiller made 23 saves for the Ducks, which concluded their five-game road trip with a 2-3-0 mark.
Captain Shane Doan scored twice, rookie Mikkel Boedker also tallied and Steven Reinprecht registered a pair of assists for Phoenix, which had won three of four.
