Boone stressed his left calf while pinch successively in Saturday’s game at Cincinnati. He is batting .258 with five home runs and 17 RBIs.
“We have been terse a couple of days,” executive Manny Acta said. “And we’re not anticipating him any better before the All-Star tea break, so we made the decision instead of mortal condensed.”
The move is backdated to July 7. Boone was replaced on the roster by infielder Pete Orr, who was recalled from Triple-A Columbus.
Orr was batting .275 with two home runs and 33 RBIs with Columbus and the International League with 11 triples. He went 2-for-11 (.182) in cup with the Nationals from June 21-30, appearing at succeeding base, third base and shortstop.
Boone a bevy of Nationals players on the DL, including four from the original nocturnal cast: Ryan Zimmerman, Nick Johnson, Lastings Milledge and Elijah Dukes.
“I don’t suppose we’re the only team that has injuries,” Acta said. “I know we have a lot of them, but it’s part of the game. You just have to deal with it and move direct.”
Acta said Zimmerman “looked very good” in his third day of batting preparation Thursday as the baseman recovers from an incapacitated left take on. Zimmerman will jolt hitting transgression Friday, but there’s quiet no timetable for a rehab delegation in the minors.
“He’s got to take his time and make sure he’s acute to inception his rehab,” Acta said. “We don’t have a date for that yet.”
Another infirm Nationals player is Dmitri Young, who has been skipping batting routine because of pain in his back. Young has in the team list, however, and has been well.
“It’s a day-to-day type of entity,” Acta said. “Anytime he shows up and like he’s not able to play, he’ll let me know.”
